In 2010, Hitachi International marked its 100th year in business and as they entered their second century the promise from the President was that growth was imminent. The global giant expanded its Canadian operation and more than doubled the size of its work force in Guelph, ON, boosting its output of construction, quarry and mining trucks by over 100%.
Maple Reinders designed and built the two-storey building expansion, which included 18,385 SF of office space as well as 146,390 SF of fabrication area. The plant expansion now houses six 75-tonne overhead cranes and thirty 7-tonne semi-gantry cranes. A natural light component was introduced into the building by installing 14 translucent mega-doors along the plant exterior, each approximately 40 ft by 40 ft in size.
This project was awarded the 2014 Grand Valley Construction Association Building Excellence Award in the Industrial category.
