Maple Reinders is proud to announce that its City of Calgary Compost Facility project was given the Canadian Construction Association’s (CCA) Environmental Achievement award. This project was delivered by Chinook Resource Management Group (CRMG), a special purpose company of which Maple Reinders PPP Ltd. is a partner, along with Bird Construction.
The City of Calgary Compost Facility project was delivered under a design-build-finance-operate-maintain Public-Private Partnership (P3) model. In addition to being the first composting facility to be delivered under the P3 model in Canada, it is also the largest of its kind in North America and the first commercial building in Alberta to be registered under LEED® Gold v4. Maple Reinders’ subsidiary AIM Environmental Group – Canada’s largest private operator of environmental municipal infrastructure – will operate the facility, on behalf of the City of Calgary, for a period of 10 years.
“The CRMG team brought innovation to this P3 project”, said Jeremy Olthuis, Maple Reinders’ National Vice President, Buildings. “Through the in-vessel technology utilizing yard and food waste as well as biosolids, we’ve managed to divert up to 50% of the waste from landfills. This project exemplifies the CCA’s new strategy regarding technology, innovation, sustainability and the betterment of our communities. We’d also like to thank the City of Calgary for their foresight on this project.”
The CCA Environmental Achievement Award was created in 1991, and recognizes the leadership role that CCA member firms and associations have taken to promote and undertake exemplary environmental conduct within the Canadian construction industry. The awards were presented at the CCA’s annual conference in Banff, AB, on March 14, 2018. For further information visit CCA National Awards Program.
