The Kelowna Integrated Water – Phase 1 project is nearing completion in Southeast Kelowna. Maple Reinders was sub-contracted by Emil Anderson Construction (EAC) to collaborate with their design-build team on the water reservoirs and pump stations scope of work.

This $86 million dollar project was aimed at separating the agricultural and domestic water systems to provide a sustainable water supply for the local agriculture and clean drinking water for the surrounding households.

Maple Reinders’ work includes building new and/or upgrading a total of 5 pump stations and reservoirs which connect to the maze of over 50 kilometers of new underground watermains installed by EAC.

What’s left to do?

Currently, Maple Reinders is completing the installation and commissioning of a back-up power generator, site backfill, landscaping, and architectural siding at the Stellar Pump Station site, but the project’s main goal of delivering clean drinking water to about 2,000 local Kelowna residents have been achieved!

Interesting project fact…

Before commissioning, Southeast Kelowna Irrigation District (SEKID) customers would get their domestic water from Hydraulic Creek and groundwater wells. Due to spring run-off causing increased turbidity, customers were typically placed underwater quality or boil-water advisories each year. Including addressing other aesthetic issues related to taste, odour, and colour, the project is helping to meet the 2025 Interior Health clean drinking water mandate early.
