Maple Reinders has completed work on the High Solids Anaerobic Digester at the Edmonton Waste Management Centre, with the facility having been commissioned and handed over to the City of Edmonton.

A Design-Build Construction Management project for the City of Edmonton, the new High Solids Anaerobic Digestion Facility was designed to be integrated into the operation of the existing Integrated Processing and Transfer Facility and Edmonton Composting Facility at the Edmonton Waste Management Centre. With the ability to process up to 48,000 tonnes of organic waste per year, the facility will expand the city’s organics waste processing capacity and contribute to the 90% landfill waste diversion goal.

Municipal organic anaerobic digesters are becoming increasingly sensible for communities looking to create energy from waste for a truly sustainable solution. In addition to producing high-quality compost for use in agriculture and horticulture, methane generated from the Anaerobic Digestion Facility will be used to generate both electricity and heat for the Edmonton Waste Management Centre.
