Located in downtown Toronto, inside the Canadian Broadcasting Centre, the new location of Context’s offices provides the facilities to film and produce their weekly half-hour television program. Context is hosted by Lorna Dueck and explores news and current affair stories from a Christian world view. Maple Reinders Constructors was contracted on a design/build basis to demolish the existing classrooms and renovate the space to suite the requirements of the client. The newly renovated space features 24-foot high exposed ceilings with suspended circular bulkheads in the kitchen and reception area. The boardroom and offices are enclosed with 10-foot high glass partitions with sliding doors, to maximize usable floor are, through the elimination of space required for swing doors. In order to meet the clients design requirements, dimmable incandescent lighting is utilized to reduce glare on the computer screens. Lighting is supplemented by fluorescent fixtures when a brighter working environment is required. A soundproofed recording booth is achieved with sound insulating batt insulation within the walls and ceilings. Drywall is installed over sound isolating channels to further reduce the sound transmission from adjacent rooms.
